The Board of Deacons has, as its principal responsibility, congregational care. The Deacons carry out this responsibility in two ways. The first is through providing rides to church services for those needing assistance, delivering flowers, delivering casseroles, and visiting the sick, homebound or members needing special attention.  The second way the Deacons carry out their responsibilities is through three ministry teams, which have further specialized efforts, led by each team and supported by all deacons:

  • Care and Crisis Team: Under the leadership of Bill Clotworthy, the care and crisis team has focused on reaching out to church members experiencing crisis of hardship in their lives. The Deacons are available to provide comfort and support on behalf of the church. In addition, the team is organizing an effort to recruit church members willing to donate casseroles for distribution by the Deacons as a tangible and practical reflection of the support of the church for members experiencing personal hardship.

  • Celebrations Team: Under the leadership of Paula Fudge, this team is focused on celebrating major life milestones of church members as a way of encouraging fellowship and personal connections across the church membership. The team has begun a monthly celebration of birthdays of church members generally observed on the first Sunday of the month at the coffee hour between the services with members of the celebrations team providing and serving cake to all members present. Members having birthdays in that month are encouraged to sign on to the list honoring all birthdays in the month. In addition, this group supports the annual lunch honoring 50-year members of the church, supports the dinner for confirmands and is working on a program to send out cards to church members on certain occasions

  • Homebound Ministry Team: Under the leadership of Roz Homm, the team has coordinated homebound communion for church members on designated occasions. In addition, the team is working in ways to match homebound church members with church companions who could bring news from the church and ensure that our homebound members feel connected with CCPC.
