Centennial Celebration

1908 - 2008

Dear Friends:

 

It is a pleasure to welcome you to a year-long celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church. For 100 years we have stood as a Gateway to the Capital City and have welcomed members from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Throughout the century the church has believed in helping our neighbors locally, nationally, and internationally as we have worked to further God’s kingdom here on earth. Weekly, outstanding pastors have delivered stimulating sermons; trained educators have provided Christian education to youth and adults; and sacred music has enhanced every service.

 

Now is the time for celebration. We will begin with the unfurling of our Centennial Banner on Homecoming Sunday. In January 2008 we will celebrate Centennial Sunday and continue with events placed throughout the church year. During this time of celebration we are also framing the future for our next century of life.

 

Please mark the dates of our Centennial Events on your calendar and join us for what will be a joyous celebration as we worship the living, loving God.   Members, families, volunteers, and staff will unite to share the many gifts and joys life has brought all of us, as together we continue to respond to the growing and changing needs of our community.

Come join in the many activities planned to observe The Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church's 100th Anniversary!

 

September – Homecoming

This celebration begins on September 9, 2007 on Homecoming Sunday with one service and a celebration luncheon. Following worship, there will be an unveiling of a Centennial Banner from the tower.
January – Celebrating a Century of Worship
Jan. 27 – Anniversary Day - One Service,
10 AM. The Rev. Joan S. Gray, Moderator, 217th General Assembly, preaching. A festive procession of Choirs, Clergy, and Special Guests. Hymns from past celebrations and the premier of our Centennial Hymn "Come Sing O Church In Joy!"

11:30  Congregational lunch in Chadsey Hall. The meal will be catered and a special children's menu provided. A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for children is requested. Make reservations on the home page of our website or call the church office.

May – Celebrating a Century of Mission and Outreach
May 11–Pentecost
June 1 – Festival Service – 10 AM Framing our Future
